My first audition was at a park.
I auditioned in front of Bonnie for two hours with hardly anyone else.
It was a radio competition; you had to dance for two hours straight and if you did, they picked one of you to win $500 and go to the next round, so that's what I did. I had a homeless person with me – I had a lot of different personalities with me!

So I did that and then went to the next stage. I was really nervous and I honestly didn't think I would be picked. I waited there from 8am, and was one of the last ones to dance, at 6pm. It was really overwhelming – I can't remember much, it went so quick. I got a ticket straight through, but I didn't expect that at all. Not at all. So I was very happy.
Did I think I'd make Top 4 from Top 20? No! I don't know why! Sydney's always the place for the dancing, and Melbourne as well, they're the best places to go, and I'm from Brissy. I just never thought I'd step up to their level, but I've really surprised myself.
I was slightly intimidated by the other dancers, but that was just my personality. Now I'm not as easily intimidated, I'm a bit more confident with myself. Usually I'm pretty self-conscious. I've built my self confidence, and I've trusted that I can do things now. When I get to know someone of course I'm pretty comfortable. I'm a different sort of shy. I'm very approachable, but I'm not in your face. I don't like to be centre of attention, as funny as that is, 'cause I'm onstage in front of millions of people, but if I was a dance party, and someone tried to make a circle, and push me through it, I would not go in, I would be embarrassed and scared to do it. Strange, but being onstage is just a totally different world to being in a circle in a crowd. I'm a pretty closed book, but I think I'm starting to open up a bit more.
I've never done Ballroom, I've done a little bit of Contemporary – nothing like that's been on done of the show though. I do Jazz, Tap, Funk, Hip Hop – so that's kind of prepared me, Musical Theatre's helped me, cause I act as well, cuz dancing is involved with acting. I have been surprisingly quite prepared for this. Your health, looking after yourself, that's the biggest challenge. Sleeping, eating, all that. As challenging as the other styles are, it just doesn't compare to the physical aspect. The schedules are just so demanding, and it's just hard to do over a few months. I'm only just starting out to feel it now. My body is screaming at me, It's going, ‘STOP!! JUST STOP!' And I'm going, ‘I'm going, I will, I will, just hang on!'
What do people like about me? I have no idea. I don't know. Honestly? I don't… I'm really cautious of being myself. I don't like to be influenced to do things I don't wanna do. So if a camera comes into my face and they say, ‘I want you to do this', I'll say no, or I would try and do it my own way. I don't wanna come across fake 'cause Australia can read that, and maybe that's what they see, that I am just really honest. Top 10, I thought, ‘Oh, OK, People liked me and Demi' but when it came to individual voting, I had no idea how that was gonna go. I've never really thought of it actually, I've never really thought about that kind of stuff.
I don't care what happens with this show, Broadway is where I'm going. The show has made me more confident. This has prepared me for overseas, because overseas – there's just so much more there, and you would expect it to be so more challenging and harder to get into places. This has has made me realise that I can make it over there.
